Filtration chosen for the water, not the manual
The filter interval printed in an appliance manual assumes municipal water of a certain quality. A well with sediment, iron or real hardness will exhaust that filter far sooner, and the appliance has no way of telling you so beyond the symptom: a fill that shortens, cubes that arrive small and cloudy, and eventually scale in the fill tube and the mould.
The useful work on these calls is diagnostic rather than mechanical. Pressure measured at the appliance, fill volume timed, filter age established, and an interval recommended that matches the supply rather than the label.
